Healing from Grief is not about forgetting…
Cathy earned a Master of Social Work degree in 1982 at The George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University, St Louis, Mo. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Connecticut as well as an EMDR Certified Therapist.
She has spent her career assisting individuals and their families through the grief process in many diverse settings. At Calvary Hospital, Bronx, New York as a Cinical Social Worker and Assistant Director of Social Work, helping patients coping with their death, she also started the first hospital wide Family Discussion and Support Group to aid the families with the impending loss of their loved one. The theme of loss continued in her work at the Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield, CT as Assistant Director of Social Work and it is here that Cathy moved into the area of bereavement and group work at Leo P. Gallagher & Sons Funeral Home in Stamford, CT.
Though her area of expertise had been primarily helping adults deal with loss and trauma she became interested in childhood bereavement and was the Program Director for The Caring Network for Grieving Children and their Families in Milford, CT through Bridges and Cody White Funeral Home and is presently involved as a Site Director for The Cove Center for Grieving Children; helping children who have experienced a death in their family in a safe and supportive group program. She has additionally worked with area schools to offer consultation and groups.
Cathy currently maintains a private clinical practice in Trumbull, CT providing treatment for individuals coping in all areas of grief, loss, and post-traumatic stress. She is also a member of the Fairfield County Trauma Response Team, a group of seasoned trauma therapists trained in EMDR and disaster relief.
